Out of the Dust · Track 6 · For Parents & Grandparents
A Redeemed Country song for parents and grandparents who want to pass on a faith that’s real
The question behind the song
How do I pass a real faith on to my children? Live it where they can see it. Children believe the faith they watch you live at home, not just the one they hear about at church.

Children are always watching. They hear what we say on Sunday, and they see how we live on Monday. They notice how we talk about people, how we handle hard days, and whether our faith holds up when no one from church is around. A child can spot hypocrisy a mile away.
When Paul wrote to Timothy, he remembered the faith of Timothy's grandmother and mother, and he called it unfeigned faith:
"When I call to remembrance the unfeigned faith that is in thee, which dwelt first in thy grandmother Lois, and thy mother Eunice; and I am persuaded that in thee also."
2 Timothy 1:5Unfeigned means not faked, not put on for show. It's the same word the King James translates "without hypocrisy" in James 3:17. Lois and Eunice didn't just teach Timothy about God. They lived a faith real enough that he could see it, and it became his own.
I grew up in an unstable home, and on weekends my sister and I always begged to spend the night at Grandma and Grandpa's. Grandma would say she'd love that, but we had to promise to go to church with her on Sunday. So we did, week after week. Because she insisted, I was in church the night a missionary came to speak, and that night the Lord saved me.
What I remember most about Grandma's faith is what she lived. She was at church every time the doors were open: Sunday morning, Sunday night, Wednesday night, and every special service in between. She was always visiting neighbors, many of them elderly, just to sit with them, listen, and encourage them in the Lord. She had tears in her eyes when she talked about Jesus.
There were so many things. That's what showed me her faith was real. She went home to be with the Lord in 2021, and this song is my tribute to the faith she lived in front of me.
Your children and grandchildren don't need you to be perfect. They need your faith to be real, the same at home as it is at church. They need to see you pray. They need to see you repent when you sin, and make amends when you've wronged someone, whether you meant to or not. They need to see you walk in humility, always pointing them to Jesus. The life you live in front of them every day is a testimony they'll carry long after you're gone.

Tell me about the time when you saw His face
Tell me about all of His glory and grace
Tell me about the mansions and the streets of gold
Tell me about the crystal sea and the shores of old
Tell me about the angels and the splendid throne
Show me around heaven when we meet at home
